Refined sugar is widely used in the food industry, but its environmental impact is significant, both due to its energy-intensive production and its health effects. At Solufruit, we have chosen an eco-friendlier approach: a simple and 100% natural fruit processing method. Using fruit juice concentrate as a natural alternative sweetener offers a sustainable food option to refined sugar, benefiting both the environment and human health.

Valorizing waste: a commitment to reducing food waste

As part of our effort to reduce food waste, Solufruit exclusively purchases downgraded fruits—those that cannot be sold in traditional retail channels. By doing so, we give these fruits a second life, turning them into high-quality fruit concentrates. Our commitment goes beyond mere processing: we actively reduce, reuse, and repurpose our waste.

• The pits generated during production are sold as fuel to other companies. Our goal in the coming years is to use these pits as our own energy source.
• The fibers from the fruit are repurposed as animal feed, ensuring that every part of the raw material is used efficiently.

Energy optimization and sustainable commitment

In our ongoing quest for more sustainable food solutions, we are reducing our reliance on fossil fuels. We have increased our solar energy capacity with new solar panels and we have introduced green roofs to minimize our environmental footprint. Additionally, we have acquired a vacuum evaporator that consumes very little energy, further optimizing our energy use. Excess energy is also recovered, including condensates from production, to minimize waste.

Working towards B-corp Certification

While we already hold multiple certifications that recognize our sustainable practices, we are currently in the process of obtaining B-corp certification, a demanding label that rewards companies adhering to the highest environmental and social standards.

With these initiatives, Solufruit is firmly positioned in a circular economy approach, where every part of the fruit is valued, and fruit purees production processes are optimized for reduced environmental impact.
